How to Clean and Maintain Your Vegetable Brush

Quick Answer

To keep your vegetable brush clean and long-lasting, rinse it after each use, sanitize it weekly with hot water and mild soap, and replace it when bristles are frayed or the brush smells moldy.

Diagnosis & Cleaning Steps

• Symptom: The brush looks clean but has a musty smell or visible food debris trapped between bristles.
• Likely Cause: Food particles and moisture remain in the bristles after each use, especially if the brush is stored in a closed drawer or damp area.
• Corrective Action: Rinse the brush under hot running water immediately after use, scrubbing the bristles with your fingers. Once a week, soak the brush in a solution of warm water and a few drops of dish soap for 10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly and let it air dry completely before storing. If the brush still smells after deep cleaning, replace it.
• When to Replace: Replace your vegetable brush if bristles are frayed, bent, or falling out, or if a persistent moldy odor remains after sanitizing.
